Dayanna Volitich on Why The Premier League is The Best in the World

As an Englishman living in the US it can be hard to find people with whom I can talk about football with, soccer for the uninitiated. With that being said I do have one friend here who loves the Premier League as much as I do, my colleague Dayanna Volitich. We were speaking last week about different leagues in the world and which we believe to be the best. Now it has long been my opinion that the EPL is the best that there is, but I am aware that I may be biased somewhat. My friend actually agrees with me however and here is why we believe this to be the best league anywhere on the planet.

The best and most decorated managers in the world ply their trade in the English Premier League, which is just one reason why it is the world’s best. Here we have Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, Unai Emery and Maurizio Sarri, all of whom have won a huge array of titles. These managers sit at the helm of the best clubs and they have made the league a far better place.

As Leicester City proved back in 2015/16, anyone can win this league and it is by far and away the most competitive league in the world. Leicester’s success was of course a miracle of epic proportions but on any given day, any team in the league can beat another. The race for the top 4 is always closely contested, newly promoted clubs have finished in the top 10 and teams that were ‘too good to go down’ have indeed gone down. In France there is only 1 team who will win, in Germany perhaps 2 and in Spain there are 2, potentially 3 teams who can win the league. Here in England however, it could be Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool, Spurs, or anyone else for that matter.

You only needed to watch the world cup to see that by volume, the very best players in the world are here in England. Admittedly most of the top 10 players in the world are playing abroad, the list between 10 and 50 will feature predominantly players who occupy clubs in the Premier League. The obscene money that the likes of Barca, PSG and Real have generally mean that they snap up the creme de la creme, but they often fill out their teams with substandard players, this is not something that happens in the Prem.

English clubs have a richer history than the majority of teams in the world and this is why the Premier League is such a brilliant product. Throughout the world you will see people wearing United and Liverpool tops, such is the global appeal of English football.

There is no question, the Premier League is the best competition in the world, do you agree or disagree?
