Best Road Trips to Take this Year

Are you looking for an exciting adventure to take this year? Do you long to hit the open road, with nothing but a few bags in the back seat of your car? If so, it’s time to start planning a road trip. There are plenty of places to visit all over the world, but some routes are a little better than others. To help you plan out your road trip, here are some of the best road trips you could take this year.

Canada to Mexico

If you want to see multiple countries, while still staying largely within the continental United States, consider taking a road trip from Canada down to Mexico. Start your trip off at Jasper National Park in Canada and take in its glacier lakes. From there head south and explore Montana, Idaho, Nevada and Arizona. Along the way you can see things like Native American reservations, Las Vegas, and amazing mountain views. Finally, end up at the Sonora Desert and check out the amazing sand dunes.

The Oregon Trail

For those of you that want to stay within the United States, why not take a road trip along a path that inspired your favorite computer game as a kid? The Oregon Trail starts in Missouri, then stretches over 2,000 miles to end up in Oregon City. Along this trail you can even see the original wagon tracks that settlers took when expanding west. There are plenty of national monuments, national parks, and other tourist attractions to visit along the way to keep your drive interesting and educational.

All Over Europe

Finally, if you want to leave this continent entirely, consider taking a road trip around Europe. In Europe it’s easy to drive from one country to another, easily exploring entirely new cultures within the same day. You can map out your own route to suite your desires. For example, you could start off in London, work your way down to Paris, then Switzerland, then finish up in Italy. Or you can spread out further east and visit Spain. There’s also Germany, Holland, Poland, and many other places you can explore, all within a days drive. Europe has some amazing roads, so book a flight, rent a car, and start exploring.

Road Trip Tips

Once you’ve decided on where you want to travel, now it’s time to start planning out the rest of your trip. You don’t want to just jump in your car without doing some preparation beforehand. To help you make the most of your trip, here are a few tips you can use.

To start, make sure your vehicle is in good condition. Have a mechanic inspect your car and see that there are no issues. You may need to replace some tires, fluids, or brakes before you head out. You should also make sure you have proper car insurance and that you have a road-side assistance program. Finally, if you’re driving an RV, look into something like RV extended service plans to give yourself some more protection.

Beyond your car, you should also protect yourself. Pack some emergency supplies underneath one of your seats to prepare for anything you might encounter along the way. A flashlight, food and water, and some basic tools are all good things to store, along with a first aid kit.

The last tip is to plan as much of your trip as you can before you go. Think about where you’ll stop each night, the best roads to take, and what things you want to see along the way. You can always deviate from your plan if you want to, but having a rough guideline for what you want to do will help you see everything you want to see. You’ll also be able to tell if you’re putting too much on your plate for one day, so that you can readjust before you go.
